Even with good brushing habits, the grooves and pits on the chewing surfaces of back teeth can be hard to keep clean-especially for kids. That’s where dental sealants come in. At Southwest Family Dentistry, we offer sealants as a quick and effective way to help prevent cavities, particularly in children and teens.

Sealants are a thin, protective coating applied to the chewing surfaces of molars and premolars. They create a smooth barrier that keeps food particles and bacteria from settling into those hard- to-reach areas. The process is simple, painless, and doesn’t require numbing or drilling-just a few minutes per tooth for long-lasting protection.

We usually recommend sealants around age 6 and again around age 12, when the permanent molars come in. However, they can benefit cavity-prone teens and adults too!
